Howie

Howie is the President of the ARSBC and has been involved with the organisation from its inception in 1989. "It's been an exciting and interesting adventure and I'm proud of the accomplishments we have made to B.C.'s marine ecology and of the recognition the ARSBC has earned world-wide as leaders in the creation of artificial reefs for marine habitat. We could not have done this without the vision and drive of our Directors as well as the support of countless volunteers". Howie has been an active diver since 1973.

DougP Doug has been diving for 35 years, and has dived and photographed many areas of the world including South Pacific, Caribbean, Mexico, Mediterranean, Red Sea and all three coasts of Canada. He has also been an Associate and Contributing Editor for DIVER Magazine for the past 12 years. Doug became actively involved with the ARSBC in 1991 as a volunteer on the Chaudiere project and has worked on most projects since that time. He joined the Board of Directors in 2002. "It's been very rewarding to watch our efforts turn a large ship or airplane, that may other wise be scrapped, into a living artificial reef that attracts an amazing and rich, diversity of marine life as well as divers from around the world"

 Larry Larry has been diving since 1999, and joined the Board of Directors in 2001 after having worked on the Cape Breton project. Larry's day-job is as a space mission consultant helping to design and launch satellite missions. It was the similuation of zero-gravity weightlessness which first attracted him to scuba diving, but now he loves seeing the amazing diversity of marine life which the B.C. coast has to offer.

Doug Bencze became Treasurer of the ARSBC in September of 2004.  Doug became a professional accountant in 1985, and began diving in 1987, now combining these two efforts for the Artificial Reef Society of B.C.  He was born, raised, and still lives, in Vancouver, the home base of the ARSBC.

 RickWall Rick is the the Navy Liaison Director for the ANNAPOLIS Project. Although not a diver, he is a retired Naval officer with 36 years experience as a Marine Systems Engineer. He has had seagoing appointments on HMC Ships SASKATCHEWAN, MACKENZIE, ANNAPOLIS & IROQUOIS as well as shore appointments in Halifax, Ottawa, Esquimalt and Bath, England.

Tex Tex is one of the founders of the ARSBC. For many years his role has been government relations, ship acquisition and project financing, and developing the tourism enhancement aspects of ARSBC activities. He is a former Deputy Minister in Victoria, a one time Ministerial Assistant in Ottawa, and was President of the Mining Association of BC in the 1980s, as well as CEO in several companies. Tex is a lawyer by training but operates his own public affairs/government relations firm.
